Why weren't more groups able to attend a face-to-face meeting this spring?
" Weren't aware this group existed
" Budget considerations (need to be able to drive, so has to be Chicago)
" Need more advance notice of date
" June timing doesn't work for some (academic year end, graduation, weddings)
" Turnover among representatives/executive groups
" Listservs aren't maintained, so not everyone gets messages far enough in advance (if at all)

Possible dates for face-to-face meeting
" Decided to meet in the fall, Sunday evening/Monday all day
" Date choices:
o Sunday 10/3 & Monday 10/4
o Sunday 10/10 & Monday 10/11
o Sunday 10/17 & Monday 10/18
o Sunday 10/24 & Monday 10/25

Organizational Goals
" To be ranked via e-mail to set agenda for face-to-face meeting:
o Ways the organization can provide support on various issues that individual university groups are struggling with
o Benefits - consistency, benchmarking
o Budget and staff cuts
o Getting a voice at your university - how do you participate in governance
o How do you get recognition within your university and with the public for what academic staff do
o Performance evaluations
o Job security/protection - contracts

" Started this group to get good data from one another for benchmarking, this should continue to be the focus
" Need to find a way to keep a history of what's already been done so that we don't start over each year
o Could use the CIC web site for this - MN will look into how to do this - find out limitations on type of info we can publish on the CIC site
" Website should include background on each institution and each group - links to their web sites, meeting minutes, data collected, etc.
o Need to find a way to get an accurate listserv and keep it up-to-date
" Needs to be some continuity in who attends these meetings, so they understand what's going on, what's already happened, etc.
o Maybe each group could have a CIC liaison, who wouldn't necessarily have to be currently active in the group, but just informed of what's happening, and share that info with CIC group
o Also have an orientation for new people before or during the Sunday evening reception

Recent Advances and Setbacks
" MN - working on getting representatives to University Senate from all non-unionized employee groups, not just faculty and students, will likely happen in '05-'06
" Iowa - their group was invited to participate in budget planning discussions - gave input on where cuts should come from
" WI - increasing number of non-renewals and layoffs because of changes in federal funding
